Lotte’s is a beloved 150 year old, garden-surrounded weatherboard cottage anchored in its past.

Lotte’s is a beloved 150 year old, garden-surrounded weatherboard cottage anchored in its past. Embracing the romance of life in a small country town, Lotte’s is a place for peace and quiet, for finding year-round comfort and languid enjoyment.

As a home she is resourceful and imaginative, with a generous pantry, well-equipped kitchen, nooks for reading and a harvestable potager garden. Furnished with a painterly nostalgia, she is filled with storied homewares and artfully sourced French antiques.

At heart, Lotte’s is a celebration of simple, domestic pleasures; flowers freshly picked from the garden; a library of books; cut wood burning slowly in a fireplace; morning coffee taken on the verandah; a loaf of bread, oven-warm, cooling on the counter.

These are the kinds of things, we believe, that are worth taking time for. The small details and gentle moments that make a house a home.

THE LOCATION

Pambula is where the country meets the coast, where good coffee and fine dining are just minutes away from the wilderness of forest and national park. The beaches are pristine, the towns charming and the air is eucalypt-fresh, carrying the songs of the bellbird - nature’s soundtrack here on The Sapphire Coast.

The cottage is in a quiet cul-de-sac just on the edge of town with easy walking access to shops (both artisan and practical) and a bike ride away from Pambula Beach and Pambula river, where cartoon blue river water meets red rock on the sandy shallows, it’s special to behold.

THE COTTAGE

You enter Lotte’s through an ever-evolving garden, where we sow seasonal herbs and vegetables which you are welcome to harvest. Once inside, take comfort in soft woollen blankets, warm beds with high quality linens, logs stacked beside the slow combustion fireplace, stacks of books, Apple TV and unlimited high speed internet.

The kitchen here is truly the heart of the home with a stocked pantry, a SMEG oven (such a pleasure to cook with) and a large window that opens out onto the lush, undercover courtyard garden. The concrete benchtops and outdoor breakfast bar were made by our friend Robert down the road. And our cookware is as beautiful as it is functional, with everything needed to prepare and enjoy a good meal in.

The house has three cosy bedrooms with beautiful arrangements of linens from IN BED and Society of Wanderers, so no need to bring your own. Each room has a double bed, meaning the house sleeps six, however our couch is comfortable and is as wide as a king single. Extra blankets and pillows are aplenty too.

Our spacious bathroom has a rainfall shower, washing machine and dryer, with an antique bathtub sourced from Belgium that is perfect for deep soaking. Beside it is a large window that pops open over the rambling front garden.

From the tea leaves to the kettle to the teaspoon, heart and mind have been given to all of the small details at Lotte’s.

Lotte’s is for you and yours.

Stay a while.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

“If you want to take time to unwind from life and enjoy life’s simple pleasures you need to stay at Lotte’s. Miranda and Harrison have created something very special. Our family, including 3 teenagers... had such a relaxed and enjoyable time here. Lotte’s cottage is within walking distance to lovely cafes, a bakery and just a short drive to the beach and Pambula river mouth (my personal fav spot). We arrived to find fresh bread, eggs and milk. The cottage was so clean and sweet, we loved all the eclectic and antique finds. There were many special touches and it was so wonderful to be in a space where you sense the pride and love put in. We’ll definitely be back ☺️”

About Miranda & Harrison

Miranda O’Rourke

Miranda is a criminologist working for the Australian Government. She has a passion for interior design and photography. Miranda is quite the homebody who enjoys spending time in the kitchen or podding around with foliage she has picked from the garden (or from the side of the road) and doing floral arrangements for the cottage. She has quite the passion for antiques and this became strengthened during her time working for Parterre Australia. During her years at Parterre, she ran the café and the event’s centre which dealt with high end, luxury brands and imported antiques from France, Italy and Belgium. Miranda fell in love with the process and hearing the stories with dealers about where their antique pieces came from and the journey they have been on. She fell in love with storytelling and the romance that comes from antiques, and how much warmth and texture they add to a home. Miranda loves exploring new places in the kombi and creating new memories with friends. Her proudest accomplishment is the life she has built with Harrison, she says she falls more in love with him every day and is so lucky to be sharing her life with someone who has dreams as big as hers.

Harrison Balodis

Harrison works in the tv and film industry and first started his career when he was 17 working on set for River Cottage Australia. His time on River Cottage really ignited his passion for sustainable living, growing vegetables and cooking good food. When Harrison isn’t in the garden, he is driving his 1975 kombi van. Owning a kombi was a long-time dream of Harrisons which finally came to life in 2015 when late one night he purchased a rusty Kombi shell online. From that he has slowly had the Kombi restored from the ground up. Many weekends are spent living out of the kombi, camping in National Parks, exploring and revisiting our favourite places on the coast. He enjoys visiting local farmer’s markets and exploring local produce, then taking it back to the kombi camp for a cook up. Harrison also has a love for renovating and interiors. Growing up he was inspired by his mum and her passion for collecting old pieces from op shops and antique shops. In 2017, Harrison and Miranda started renovating Lotte’s and restoring the 150-year-old weatherboard cottage. This has been an ongoing project which allows Harrison to pursue his passion for renovation and design. For now, Harrison still works in the TV industry building his career, whilst also allowing time for Lotte’s and the renovation process. He has also turned his passion of vintage cars and his kombi into a business, Hello Kombi, which allows people to hire out the Kombi van for weekend adventures and weddings.
