When we first decided to start renting the cottage out for holiday stays, we knew we needed to provide high quality bed linen. Over the years, the style of the beds and the linens we have chosen to match the cottage has evolved, but we never steered away from good quality. In the early days, we were very much in a beige, white and grey stage. We weren’t confident in our ability to design and style with colour, so we stayed right away. Over the years, as we have grown into ourselves a little more, we have become more confident with colour and strive to be more on the bolder side. We now opt for bright linens that will have an impact. I am often asked what brand of bed linen someone should buy and I now say with proudly, ‘don’t pick just one’. There are so many amazing brands now who are experimenting with colour and pattern that really lifts the bedroom up a notch. The bedding in our house consists of several leading linen brands - InBed, Bed Threads, Society of Wanderers and the classic, Provincial Home Living (from the beige days!) and we mix and match these on the daily. We style our beds to encourage slow mornings, long lie ins and relaxation. One of the key features of this style of bedding is the linen quilted throws (or mohair in the winter) we place at the end of the beds. These create warmth and texture to the bed. We also add lots of pillows, all with different pillow slips, to add in the extra colours which invite people in.

One of the most recent and exciting additions to our beds are the most amazing locally made quilts by Sally Veer. Sally hand stitches these quilts, using waste off cuts of organic fabrics, to make unique and one of a kind quilts. I first saw that Sally was making these handcrafted quilts during the covid-19 nationwide lockdown. I really wanted to encourage and support people doing creative things during this time of unpredictability and uncertainty. These beautiful blankets now sit proudly on our beds and it is so special knowing how much love and time went into constructing these.

A bed is a sacred place. It is a place for rest and recovery. But it doesn’t have to be boring. Celebrate colour and encourage makers. Spread the love and support many.
